EDGAR & Infrastructure

EDGAR Next

Also known as: EDGAR modernization

DEFINITION

EDGAR Next is the SEC's multi-year program to modernize how filers submit and how the public consumes EDGAR data. The first phase (live in March 2026) added a Country field and a Foreign Trading Symbol field to Forms 3, 4, and 5, alongside upgraded authentication for filing agents. Future phases target structured data improvements and API expansions.

WHY IT MATTERS FOR RETAIL INVESTORS

Most retail investors never interact with EDGAR Next directly, but the new fields matter: Foreign Trading Symbol on Form 4 finally lets you tie a US insider's transactions to a foreign-listed share class — useful for dual-listed companies. As EDGAR Next rolls out, expect downstream tools (including FilingRadar) to surface new dimensions of data that did not exist before.
